Third World, Tanya Stephens for Reggae Month in Negril this weekend

Kingston, Jamaica: Negril comes alive this weekend as events in observance of Wray & Nephew Reggae Month 2025 take centrestage in that resort town.

The musical treats kick off on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14, with Love at Woodstock. This event, which has become a signature for the popular Negril venue, will feature the celebrated show band Third World.

This is a traditional event from the team at Woodstock and in the past has featured perennial crowd-pleaser, Beres Hammond. It is that sense of history and a proven track record for excellent showcases that is behind this year’s event.

Third World is no stranger to the Negril live music scene and is set to bring its impressive catalogue of global hits to the Woodstock stage. Among the popular tracks in the Third World vault are: 96 Degrees in the Shade, Now That We Found Love, Try Jah Love, Reggae Ambassador and Satta Masagana.

The Reggae vibe continues on Saturday, February 15, moving to Roots Bamboo Beach, located on the famous Seven-Mile strip. Reggae singer and songwriter extraordinaire Tanya Stephens will headline the Young Reggae Ambassadors showcase.

Fresh off a performance at the Essence of Reggae Festival which kicked off Reggae Month on February 1, Tanya Stephens will undoubtedly bring her brand of Reggae music with her spicy lyrics to this event. Her impressive list of hits includes: It’s A Pity, These Streets, Nuh Ready Fi dis Yet, Big Ninja Bike, Can’t Breathe, What’s Your Story and Gangsta Blues. Tanya Stephens will be joined on stage by some of the rising acts in the Reggae genre such as Carlanda Gordon, Johnoy Hibbert, Tish Brown, and Lady Crystal.

Wray & Nephew Reggae Month 2025 Reggae is powered by The CHASE Fund, with other major sponsors Wray & Nephew, Jamaica Tourist Board, Tourism Enhancement Fund, Universal Service Fund, RJR/Gleaner Communications Group, IRIE FM and Mello FM.

The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport through its executing agency, the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), and the Reggae Month secretariat, has been producing the core events and assisting with the promotion of some of the month’s endorsed events.

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, OJ, DC, MP is pleased with the initiative taken by the promoters of Love at Woodstock and the Young Reggae Ambassadors showcase who continue to stage events in keeping with Reggae Month to spread the vibe of the month-long celebrations across the island.

“Negril has always been known for live music so adding these two strong events to the line-up for Reggae Month is certainly a plus. The Young Reggae Ambassadors showcase is free to patrons so it will allow a wider audience to be exposed to the music of these artistes. As a resort town, visitors to the island will also have the chance to see these performances and be exposed to Reggae music,” said Minister Grange.

Other upcoming events include the Tuesday Service at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre on February 25, and the Reggae Gold Awards Ceremony at the National Indoor Sports Centre on February 28. The celebration will culminate with the Dancehall Week Street Parade and the Dancehall Week After Party on Sunday, March 2. The full schedule of events for Wray & Nephew Reggae Month is accessible in real-time on the Reggae Jamaica App which is available for download from Google Play and the App Store.
