Kingston Jamaica: International Reggae Sweetheart, Romain Virgo, will be amongst the headliners for the Jamaica 55 Independence Festival Village opening show Standing Ovation on Saturday, July 29. A variety show featuring Jamaican excellence in the arts, Standing Ovation will feature signature and world-class works by leading Jamaican choreographers, composers, musicians, actors and dancers. Also headlining this outstanding cast of entertainers will be singing sensation Karen Smith, One Third, Fab 5, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jamaica, Company Dance Theatre, L’Acadco and comedian Michael Abrahams. Beginning at 8 p.m. Standing Ovation is the first of Independence Festival Village’s seven nightly shows which will be hosted at the National Arena.

While the daily Village is free for entry, tickets for the Standing Ovation Concert and the other nightly show are adults $1000 presold and $1200 at the gate; children are $400, with season passes being made available. Tickets can be purchased from the JCDC Head Office at 3-5 Phoenix Ave, Kingston 10, online at www.jcdcjamaica.com, all Fontana Pharmacy locations and at BX Ticket Hub at Bill Express locations island-wide.
The daily Festival Village will feature activities for the entire family including live performances, promotional booths and displays, exhibitions, a food court, a Kiddies Village and rides and other attractions. The nightly show line-up features the Jamaica Gospel Song Competition Grand Final – Sunday, July 30; Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition Grand Coronation – Tuesday, August 1; Festival Fashion Flair – Wednesday, August 2; Mello-Go-Roun – Thursday, August 3; World Reggae Dance Championship – Friday, August 4 and Kingston Reggae Night – Saturday, August 5. Grand Gala will take place on Sunday, August 6.
Jamaicans at home and abroad are also being encouraged to join in the Independence festivities by participating in this year’s Festival Fashion theme: “Wear Di Vibes… It’s Jamaica 55” by wearing black, red, emerald and gold, each representing the various vibes of the Jamaican People.
