JCDC to Host Virtual Emancipation Day Celebrations Today

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will broadcast its National Emancipation Day celebrations – that is the Grand Coronation for the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition, the Grand Final of the Jamaica Gospel Star Competition and the National Emancipation and Independence Thanksgiving Church Service, on local television stations and online on its website and social media pages today.

The day’s celebrations will begin this morning with the National Emancipation and Independence Thanksgiving Church on TVJ at 9:00 a.m. The service will be held under the theme "Stronger Together", and members of the Political Directorate including the Governor General, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition and other Dignitaries are expected to be in attendance.

Then, the Grand Coronation of the  2021 Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition will be held at 3:30 p.m., also on TVJ,  and will see Jamaica’s top thirteen most intelligent, culturally aware and poised young women each proudly represent their home parish as they compete for the national crown on the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen stage.

This will be immediately followed by the Grand Final of the Jamaica Gospel Song competition on CVM TV at 6:00 p.m. The final episode in the four-part television series, the competition’s Grand Final will see the top five finalists perform two songs each as they compete for the competition’s winning title. They will first perform a duet with their favourite Jamaican Gospel Artiste, and then they will give a repeat performance of their favourite performance this season. The duets will feature live performances with renowned Gospel artistes Kevin Downswell, Jermaine Edwards, Rondell Positive, Alicia Taylor and Jai Kingston.

All three national Emancipation Day celebrations will be live-streamed on the JCDC’s website – www.jcdc.gov.jm, and on its Facebook page - Jamaica Cultural Development Commission and Youtube page - JCDC Jamaica1.
