Festival Song Deadline Extended to Thursday, June 3

The entry deadline for the Jamaica Festival Song Competition has been extended to Thursday, June 3 at midnight said Mr. Orville Hill, Chairman of the competition’s organizing committee.

Hill stated that the deadline extension is a “brawta”, called for by potential entrants who requested extra time to polish off their entries to ensure that they are up to the competition’s standard, especially those who are facing various challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Every year the Festival Song competition is met with great enthusiasm from the public, and this year was no different. Both the public and our potential entrants have been calling for a deadline extension for this year’s competition, so we decided to re-open our online portal for a few more days, and we will continue to accept entries until midnight on June 3,” Hill said.

“We are calling this a ‘brawta’ extension, because we are only able to extended the deadline for a few extra days so as not to affect the timelines of our adjudication process, and the upcoming televised shows in July. The competition remains open to all Jamaicans and so we once again look forward to a good mixture of established and emerging artistes competing for the top song that will rock the nation,” he continued.

Persons who are still interested in entering the 2021 competition may do so on the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s website, www.jcdc.gov.jm. Entrants should note that they will need to upload a lyric sheet and their entry song in a MP3 file format, which should be four minutes or less. The Jamaica Festival Song competition carries an entry fee of $1,000 JMD per entry, which can be paid at the JCDC Head Office in Kingston, or at any Parish Office, up to Friday, June 4.
