Across the length and breath of the island, on the eve of Emancipation Day, vigils will be held in commemoration of the Emancipation of emancipation from slavery. The JCDC working in collaboration with the respective Ministers’ Fraternity in each parish, will stage a parish vigil in each parish capital. The programme features performances primarily from traditional folk groups followed by a religious service which culminates in the symbolic reading of the Emancipation Proclamation at midnight by the Custos of the parish.
