Youth aged 13 to 17 years have less than two weeks to enter the Jamaica Customer Service Song Competition. The entry deadline for its fifth annual staging is Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. and the top three winners will be announced at the National Customer Service Week (NCSW) and Service Excellence Conference which is scheduled to be held virtually on Monday, October 3, 2022. This prestigious song competition is a proud product of a budding partnership between the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) and the Jamaica Customer Service Association (JaCSA).
Mrs. Avory Crooks-Campbell, JCDC Music Development Specialist and Executive Member of JaCSA said “It has been my esteemed pleasure to coordinate the Jamaica Customer Service Song Competition for the past four years. Watching the students perform their original songs while spreading the message of good customer service stirs up a feeling of pride and hope for the future generation. We look forward to welcoming entries from both new entrants as well as from our repeat participants and winners.”
Deputy Chairman of the Jamaica Customer Service Association (JaCSA), Mr. Richard Rowe, also had encouraging words for prospective entrants. He said, “I am always inspired by the creativity and potential of our Jamaican youth. This song competition gives them the opportunity to use their musical talent to promote the importance of excellent customer service in our country.” He added, “Young people, this is your time to shine! Submit your entry without delay!”
Youth or School-based groups who are interested in entering the competition may do so by submitting a video performance of an original song in keeping with the theme “Celebrate Service Excellence: Re-igniting a Culture of Care” to music@jcdc.gov.jm
Each performance group should have three to five members, aged 13 to 17 years, and each video entry should be four minutes or less. Entries will be judged on the musical arrangement, originality/creativity, customer service message, presentation and interpretation or use, and relevance of lyrics and expressiveness. A team of adjudicators from the JCDC will select the top 10 songs that will then be posted to the JCDC’s social media platform for public viewing.
Cash prizes and trophies are up for grabs for the top three participants and the writer of the winning song. A special incentive will be given to the winning group or music department.
Persons may visit the JCDC’s website, www.jcdc.gov.jm, and social media pages for further details. Information about the competition is also available on the JaCSA social media pages.
