The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) is partnering with business operators at the Victoria Pier, Kingston Waterfront to stage an amateur night series throughout Reggae Month to highlight upcoming local artistes.

Aptly dubbed Amateur Night on the Mound, the Roots, Rock and Reggae based talent competition series will feature upcoming singers, disc jockeys, dub poets and musicians this and every Tuesday night for the month of February.

A joint venture with the Victoria Pier establishments: Island Coffees Café, Devon House Ice Cream and Board Walk Bistro, Amateur Night on the Mound will begin its talent showcase this Tuesday, February 5, beginning at 7:00 pm.

“Reggae Month is not just about the established artistes, we want to celebrate all persons who choose to rock with Reggae, especially our local upcoming artistes,” said Mitoya Surtees-Hastings, Manager and Owner at Island Coffees Café.

She continued, “We, the business establishments on the Victoria Pier consider ourselves official residents of the Kingston Waterfront and so we are truly excited to be opening up our doors to this display of talent. We want persons to bring out their best as we all ‘hold a likkle vibe’ on the Waterfront.”

Surtees-Hastings further stated that a winner will be selected at each of the first three talent shows on February 5, February 12 and February 19, while the fourth and final show on Tuesday, February 29 will see the top three winners competing for a final prize.

“Winners will be selected from the first three shows via the cheers and applause of the audience. Then on the final night our three winners will compete for some awesome prizes, while the audience will be in for some excellent surprises!” Surtees-Hastings said.

Persons who are interested in registering to perform at Amateur Night on the Mound may do so by signing up at Island Coffees Café or Devon House I Scream locations at the Victoria Pier on the Kingston Waterfront.
