The Formidable Five remaining finalists in the 2021 Jamaica Gospel Star Competition will lift their voices in praise this Emancipation Sunday, August 1 as they compete for the winning title during the show’s televised Grand Final. Beginning at 6:00 pm the live show will be broadcast locally on CVM TV and live-streamed on the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) website – www.jcdc.gov.jm, and on its Facebook - Jamaica Cultural Development Commission and Youtube - JCDC Jamaica1 pages.
The final episode in the four-part television series, the Grand Final will see the top five finalists perform two songs each, first a duet with their favourite Jamaican Gospel Artiste, and then they will repeat performance of their favourite performance this season. The duets will feature live performances with renowned Gospel artistes Kevin Downswell, Jermaine Edwards, Rondell Positive, Alicia Taylor and Jai Kingston.
The Grand Final will be hosted by the season’s resident host Christian media personality Basillia Barnaby Cuff while the resident judges are renowned Jamaican Gospel artiste Jermaine Edwards and Christian media personality Nadine Blair.
“Jamaicans both at home and abroad have tuned in each week to watch our phenomenal finalists lift their voices in praise while covering various Gospel Genres, and each week the feedback from our at-home audiences have been just as uplifting and memorable as the performances themselves. Now that we are at our fourth and final show and down to our top 5 finalists, the excitement for the Grand Final is at a fever pitch! Each of the formidable five finalists is a Gospel powerhouse onto their own, so there is no clear cut winner; we join the nation in waiting with baited breath to see who Jamaica’s very first Gospel Star will be,” said Mr. Orville Hill, Chairman of the Jamaica Gospel Star Competition.
“Not only have our finalists received immeasurable exposure from the competition as they step into their own as Gospel artistes, but they also received training in both vocal talent and stage presence, which has been instrumental in producing the world class performances that our viewers loyally tune-into each week. Plus the ultimate Gospel Star will also receive a million dollars in cash and a produced musical single and accompanying music video to help them launch their careers,” Hill continued.
The formidable five finalists that are still standing are Daron Mitchell (Family, Word and Worship Church), Daynea Deacon Jones (The New Testament Assembly), Erica Lumsden (Clermont SDA), Ornela (Unleashing Purpose Ministries) and the finalist that was “Saved by Grace” by the competition’s judges last week, Malika James (Wesleyan Holiness Church).
Voting lines are currently open, and allow the public to text to vote for their favorite Gospel Star up until 4:00 p.m. on August 1, 2021.
The new Jamaica Gospel Star Competition television series focuses on unearthing vocally-talented and high-performance aspiring Gospel artistes, while giving them a shot at becoming Jamaica’s first Gospel Star! This competition is a rebrand of the iconic Jamaica Gospel Song Competition, however unlike its predecessor, which focused on its finalists performing and building momentum for their original song, the Jamaica Gospel Star Competition will see contestants performing unoriginal/cover songs in a weekly televised performance/elimination show, featuring performance themes like: Reggae/Dancehall Gospel, Traditional/Throwback Gospel, and even former Top 10 Jamaica Gospel Songs.
The 2021 Jamaica Gospel Star Competition is sponsored by The CHASE Fund, Flow, Sagicor, PICA, Excelsior, IRIE FM, Love 101, Gospel Ja, Suncity 104 FM, Unity in the City, Phase 3 and CPTC.
