The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) hosted a Floral Tribute to commemorate the 9TH Anniversary of the birth of the Most Honourable Michael Manley, ON, OM, OCC, Former Prime Minister of Jamaica, on Friday, December 10 at the National Heroes Park in Kingston.
The commemorative event was hosted by the Honourable Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, and tribute layers included: Senator the Honourable Thomas Tavares- Finson, OJ, CD, QC – President of the Senate representing the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, ON, PC, Prime Minister; Mr. Mark Golding, Leader of the Opposition; Dr. Dayton Campbell, General Secretary of the People’s National Party; Mr. Joseph Manley, Son of the Most Honourable Michael Manley and Mr. Granville Valentine, CD, JP, General Secretary of the National Worker’s Union. The Interim Executive Director of the JCDC Ms. Lillian Reid was also in attendance.
Born on December 10, 1924, the Most Honourable Michael Norman Manley served as the fourth Prime Minister of Jamaica from 1972 to 1980 and from 1989 to 1992. Manley was a recognized author, trade unionist, journalist, connoisseur of sports and political leader, serving as the President of the People’s National Party from 1969 to 1992.
