The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will be hosting “A Gathering at the Resting Place of Dennis E. Brown”, in celebration of the anniversary of the birth of the “Crown Prince of Reggae”, Dennis Brown at the National Heroes Park, on Friday, February 1, beginning at 9:00 a.m.   

 

The recognition of Brown’s birthday anniversary is a highlight of Reggae Month 2019, which is being held under the theme “Celebrating Reggae’s Legacy”.

 

“This year we will be celebrating Reggae Month with a series of events that will highlight reggae’s legacy all February long. It is only right that in doing so, we take the time to officially recognize the birthday of the Crown Prince of Reggae himself, Dennis Brown.” Said Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport.

 

She continued, “Reggae is more than a national treasure, it is something cherished across the globe, and Dennis Brown is one of its most iconic contributors. By honouring him as a part of Reggae Month 2019, we are taking steps to preserve these invaluable aspects of Jamaican culture, and the people who help to uplift our culture. The gathering is open to all lovers of Dennis Brown and Reggae music, and anyone who is looking to help us commemorate our culture and its champions.”

 

Born Dennis Emmanuel Brown, the late singer spent decades spreading a message of love and kindness to the masses. With classics like “Here I Come”, “The Promised Land”, and “Money in my Pocket”, he has influenced hundreds of artistes and millions of reggae lovers across the world. A revered figure within the Rastafari community, as well as the music fraternity, Dennis Brown’s music continues to be a source of upliftment to all who listen.
