Children’s Gospel Finalists to Compete for Top Prize

Sunday, May 28 will see the 24 finalists of Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song Competition compete at the National Finals at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, 36 Hope Road, Kingston 10. The competition, organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an Agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport will see the most soulful junior soloists, ensembles and choirs from across the island compete for a chance to take home cash prizes and trophies in addition to the competition’s prestigious titles. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. the National Finals, which is a part of the Jamaica 55 Celebrations, will also feature renowned Jamaican Gospel artiste, Rondell Positive as the guest performer.

According to Stephen Davidson, Director of Marketing & Public Relations, “The Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song Competition allows us to celebrate our junior songbirds as we nurture our young talents and specially celebrate them for Child’s Month. Each year the finalists come bigger and better than the year before and based on the awe-inspiring performances at each stage of the competition, we know that these finalists will not disappoint.”

The finalists in the Choir Category, 6 – 10 year old age group are: Mona Preparatory with Church Medley; Praise Tabernacle Christian Academy with This Means War; Alpha Primary with Completely Yours; and Rollington Town Primary with Sold Out.

The finalists in the Choir Category, 11 – 15 year old age group are: Porus High with The Blood Still Works; Titchfield High with Brighter Day; Willowdene Group of Schools with Hallelujah Any How; and Lime Hall Primary and Infant with Be Like Him.

The finalist in the Ensemble Category, 6 – 10 year old age group are: Jessie Ripoll Primary with Maintain; Portmore Missionary Prep with The Prayer; Rollington Town Primary with Apple of His Eyes; and George Headley Primary with What A Beautiful Name.

The finalists in the Ensemble Category, 11 – 15 year old age group are: Children of Sweet Sounds with Might God; Melody Sisters of the Willowdene Group of Schools with Stronger; Alpha Primary with Mighty God; and Homestead Primary with I Never Lost My Praise.

The finalists in the Solo Category, 6 – 10 year old age group are: Kevin Scott of St. Aloysius Primary with For Your Glory; Maylin Dillon of Alpha Primary with Just A Closer Walk With Jesus; Darrell Douglas of Knox Junior School with He Knows My Name; and Daequan Dixon with Grace Will Always Be Better Than Sin.

The finalists in the Solo Category, 11 – 15 year old age group are: Taville Henry of St. Aloysius Primary with Jerusalem; Mikhail Wilson of Alpha Primary with I Surrender; Remone Watson from Hanover with For Your Glory; and Laveka Miller of Old Harbour High with Oh How I Love Jesus.
