The Jamaica 55 Independence Village will open bright and early on Emancipation Day, Tuesday, August 1 to allow patrons from far and wide to experience “Curry come Uptown” with the annual Augus’ Mawnin Market. Opening at 6:00 am, the market will see reasonably-priced, fresh, produce on sale in the Independence Village at the National Stadium.
“This genuine, Jamaican shopping experience will see the Independence Village transformed into a vibrant market place, showcasing the rich offerings of Jamaica’s farmers.” said Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the JCDC, Stephen Davidson.
He continued. “In addition to the fresh produce, the market will also have breakfast on sale and live entertainment to keep patrons busy while they shop.”
Davidson also noted that in addition to the Augus’ Mawnin Market, the day’s activities will continue with the opening of the Independence Village at noon which features live performances, promotional booths and displays, a food court, a Kiddies Village and rides and other attractions including specular exhibitions by Institute of Jamaica, National Library of Jamaica and Jamaica Defense Force amongst others. The day will also end with the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Grand Coronation providing the night’s entertainment at 8:00 p.m.
