The Salute to Our Heroes Floral Tribute was broadcast virtually on National Heroes Day, Monday, October 18 and saw a number of national and civic leaders pay tribute to all seven of Jamaica's national heroes in a wreath-laying ceremony.
The ceremony, which was a precursor to the 2021 Presentation of National Awards saw each of seven dignitaries lay a floral arrangement at the shrine of corresponding national heroes.
The annual commemorative even was organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) in an effort to salute, highlight and celebrate Jamaica’s highest honoured sons and daughter of the soil, who fought for our freedom and nationhood.
Floral Tributes were laid by:
- The Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, Governor General of Jamaica - Marcus Garvey
- The Most Hon. Andrew Holness, Prime Minister - Sir Alexander Bustamante
- Mr. Mark Golding, Leader of the Opposition - Norman Manley
- Senator the Hon. Tom Tavares-Finson, President of the Senate - Paul Bogle
- The Hon. Mr. Justice Bryan Sykes, Chief Justice - Sam Sharpe
- The Hon. Marisa Dalrymple Philibert, Speaker of the House of Representatives - George William Gordon
- Councillor Winston Ennis, Deputy Mayor of Kingston - Nanny of the Maroons
The event was broadcast locally on TVJ, CVM, Love TV, PBCJ, JamVision, and streamed on the JCDC, JIS and Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport social media pages.
