Festival of the Performing Arts Parish Auditions to begin January 14

Kingston, Jamaica: The 2020 National Festival of the Performing Arts Competition, a staple on the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s annual calendar, will see it’s Parish Auditions round beginning this Tuesday, January 14.

Covering all five subject areas of the National Festival of the Performing Arts: Dance, Drama, Music, Speech and Traditional Folk Forms, the auditions will be held across the island and will continue into February.

Persons who missed the competition’s initial November 29, 2019 deadline will be able to enter on spot at the corresponding auditions in each parish.

The parish auditions are the first leg of the journey to the National Finals for the Festival of the Performing Arts and it allows participants to present their pieces to a panel of noteworthy adjudicators who are successful, well established industry practitioners, for an early critique before they move forward to the parish finals,” Said, Andrew Clunis, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission.

“In addition to creating avenues to foster the creative and cultural expressions of all our entrants, the opportunities created through the National Festival of the Performing Arts are priceless and often life changing; in addition to our attractive prizes, such as cash incentives, trophies and gift packages,” Clunis continued.

The National Festival of the Performing Arts is open to schools, community groups, youth clubs, social clubs, performing arts clubs, companies and churches, as well as outstanding individual performers.

Entry forms as well as additional information regarding the National Festival of the Performing Arts can be accessed online at the JCDC website, www.jcdc.gov.jm and at the JCDC Head Office located at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10 and all JCDC parish offices island-wide.
