A REFRESHING START TO JCDC JAMAICA GOSPEL ROAD SHOWS

The JCDC Jamaica Gospel Song Road shows kicked off with an energizing blend of inspiration and excitement at the Grace Tropical Rhythms sponsored event, which took place in Sam Sharpe Square on the weekend. Before the road show began, the finalists had the opportunity to spend the day with the children at the Blossom Garden Child care facility in St. James, sharing goodies provided by Grace Kennedy, Excelsior and Mrs. Mazie Reid-Bolt from La-Dels Nursery in London. The special “One Voice, One Heart” outreach component of the competition was introduced in 2010 in order to give back to communities in a more tangible way. According to Gospel Specialist Leighton Jones, “The competition is not aimed at touching lives with just voices but also with hearts and hands.”

Even though the event got off to a late start due to inclement weather, praise and worship singing group In One A- Chord managed to pull the crowds in unison, as they opened the evening with known gospel choruses to make way for the finalists. The gospel contestants delivered energetic, spirit filled performances to thousands of Christians and Non-Christians in the Montego Bay’s town centre, each performing an intro song along with their entry songs dubbed under the theme: “Blow ye the trumpet… It’s Jubilee”.

The show came to a close with 2003 third place winner Kerron Ennis, whose powerful ministry brought members of the audience to tears, an evident move of the Holy Spirit. She performed hits such as Daddy Oh, No Wonder and My Prayer. Other promotional road shows are scheduled for June 16 in Port Antonio Square and June 30 in Mandeville Square. The finalists will also be visiting the Muirton Child Care Facility in Port Antonio and Windsor Lodge in Mandeville.
