It should be an exciting ‘Bam! Bam!’ when the thirty-five (35) participants perform their entries at the Semi-finals for the Jamaica Festival Song Competition for this year. This will be held on Thursday March 15, 2012 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre beginning at 6:00 p.m. This is expected to be an interesting and entertaining time as the participants will “pull out all the stops” to give of their best in an effort to be among the top ten finalists for this year.

The screening for this year’s Competition was held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre; where a competent group of Jamaica’s top, experienced and young Music Producers, Musicians and Radio Personalities listened and adjudicated the entries.

“The need to be recognized as the Festival Song Winner was evident this year because of the expected celebrations for Jamaica 50. One hundred and sixty (160) entries from potential aspirants across the Island were received”, reported an enthusiastic David Reid, Festival Song Coordinator at the JCDC. It was from these entries that the thirty five (35) semi-finalists were selected. Mr. Reid further stated that he is confident that the ten selected will give Jamaica a real musical tribute this year.

The Jamaica Festival Song Competition which started in 1966 is the longest running Song Competition in Jamaica. This has been the driving force behind some of Jamaica’s acclaimed Singers. The competition has helped to catapult the careers for many singers since its inception. The National final is slated for Saturday, July 7, 2012.
