JCDC Selects Top Ten Songs for the Jamaica Festival Song Competition 2012

The top ten songs for the 2012 competition have been selected as the plans for the selection of the song that will help the nation to celebrate the fiftieth year of independence continue.  The title of the songs and the Performers are:

1.      Bess A Bess - Demton Bedward

2.      Dis A Mi Island - Nester Chung

3.      Down in Jamaica - Rudolph Tomlinson

4.      I Love JA - Ryan Willis

5.      Jamaica Beat Dem Bad - Tashina McKenzie

6.      Jamaica Jah Mek Ya - Calvin Wisdom

7.      Jamaica Mi Love Unu - Sheldon Howell

8.      One for All Jamrock - Dorel Lecky, Reginald Mills, Gregory Allison

9.      Real Born Jamaican - Abbygaye Dallas

10. Still Going Strong - Oniel Scott

The selection was made at the semi-final which was held on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre when the thirty-five (35) participants performed their entries.

The screening for this year’s Competition was held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre. One hundred and sixty (160) entries from potential aspirants across the Island were received.

The Jamaica Festival Song Competition which started in 1966 is the longest running Song Competition in Jamaica. This has been the driving force behind some of Jamaica’s acclaimed Singers.  The competition has helped to catapult the careers for many singers since its inception. The National final is slated for Saturday, July 7, 2012.
