JCDC Honours its Major Sponsors

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) said thank you to the sponsors of Jamaica Festival 2001 with a cocktail party and awards ceremony on Thursday, August 16, 2001. The function, which was held at the Louise Bennett Garden Theatre, was an entertaining affair. Chairman of the Board at JCDC, Mr. Vivian Crawford thanked all the sponsors of Jamaica Festival 2001 for their invaluable support, and lauded the efforts of the volunteers islandwide who make Festival happen each year. He made special mention of the staff at JCDC who he said work tirelessly year after year and "never hold the nation to ransom." The highlight of the evening was the presentation of framed certificates to JCDC's nine major sponsors. These were: * Tastee Limited who gave $500, 000.00 cash to the National Popular Song Contest; * Jamaica Broilers/ Best Dressed Foods who donated over $ 550, 000 in cash and kind to the Culinary Arts Competition; * Renaissance Jamaica Grande who sponsored accommodation to the tune of $500, 000 for the Culinary Arts Competition; * X- News Limited who committed over $500, 000.00 in advertisement to JCDC; * Nestle Jamaica Limited who gave over $500, 000 in cash and kind to the Culinary Arts Competition; * Christar Villas Vibes Bar and Grill who gave over $500, 000 in accommodation to the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Pageant; * POWER 106 FM and * LOVE FM/TV who sponsored air-time to the tune of over $500, 000 each; and * Hot 102 FM who offered sponsorship of over one million dollars. The evening's proceedings were enhanced by the presentation of prizes to the ten National Popular Song Finalists for 2001 who each won ten thousand dollars. The top three winners of that competition also received their major prizes and trophies. In addition, they performed their award winning songs. Roy Richards' winning song LIFT UP JAMAICA as usual was a favourite with the audience.
