Augus’ Mawnin Market Returns to ‘Independence Village’

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will carry “Curry come Uptown” again this Saturday, August 1 with the annual “Augus’ Mawnin Market”. Opening at 6:00 am, the market, which will see reasonably-priced, fresh, produce on sale at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, will officially launch the opening of the 2016 Independence Village at that venue.

“This genuine, Jamaican, Sat’day Market will see the Independence Village transformed into a vibrant market place, showcasing the rich offerings of Jamaica’s farmers.” said Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the JCDC, Stephen Davidson.

He continued. “In addition to the fresh produce, the market will also have breakfast on sale and live entertainment to keep patrons busy while they shop.”

Davidson also noted that in addition to the Augus’ Mawnin Market, the day’s activities will continue with the official opening of the Independence Village at noon with specular exhibitions by Institute of Jamaica, National Library of Jamaica and JDF amongst others; and the day will end with the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Grand Coronation providing the night’s entertainment at 8:00 p.m.

Augus’ Mawnin Market is sponsored by: CHASE Fund, Tourism Enhancement Fund, Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, Urban Development Corporation, Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation, Jamms, Clear Sound Production Services and Lifespan Spring Water.
