The JCDC Eastern Region kicks start its Emancipation and Independence Celebrations with the Big Stage Parish finals in Kingston & St. Andrew on Friday, July 22 starting at   7:00 p.m. at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, 36 Hope Road, Kingston 10.

Several talented individuals will vie for top honours at the finals and will compete in the categories of Dance, Singing, Dee Jay, Singjay, Novelty Acts, and Poetry. The competition was staged in phases with a community search across the parish and a development workshop was help to improve the finalist’s presentations and earning potential.

According to David Stephen Reid, JCDC Eastern Regional Manager, “this competition provides a meaningful opportunity particularly to unattached youth in rural and inner-city communities to hone their talents and be exposed on the national stage.” He also indicated that the winners from this competition will perform and showcase their talent at the Emancipation and independence activities across the parishes

The JCDC Big Stage Competition sought to capture all areas of cultural expressions that did not fall under the regular Festival Competitions. This proved quite useful in identifying and showcasing talents and individuals who would otherwise have gone unnoticed.
