The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an Agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport will host its annual National Culture Club Conference on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the Montego Bay Conference Centre in Rosehall St. James, beginning at 10:00 am. The Conference will be held to highlight major achievements of parish Culture Clubs.

The conference will also see national awards being presented to clubs and individual members and special parish and regional reports being delivered. The 2017 theme and area of national concentration will also be selected and displays and exhibitions on achievements and project research will be presented. Mr. Patrick Prendergast, (Actg.) Director, University of the West Indies, Western Campus will be the guest speaker at the opening ceremony.

The JCDC, in recognizing the importance of preserving Jamaica’s culture and heritage, has established a series of Culture Clubs in schools and other community based organizations across the island. The aim of these Culture Clubs is to focus on the young people through whom our Jamaican customs and traditions can be channeled and preserved.  These clubs also provide an opportunity through which the creative talents and skills of these young Jamaicans ranging in age from 10 – 18 years old, can be identified, developed and promoted.
