Minister Hanna to Unveil Culture Passport at Inaugural National Culture Clubs Conference

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an agency of the Ministry of Youth and Culture will host the Inaugural National Culture Clubs Conference on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Rex Nettleford Multi-Purpose Room, UWI, Mona Campus, starting at 10:00 a.m. The conference will be held under the theme: “Love of Self; Respect for Country”.

The guest speaker will be the Hon. Lisa Hanna, MP, Minister of Youth and Culture. Minister Hanna will also unveil the “Culture Passport”. This is the revised Culture Card programme to promote visits to heritage and cultural sites across Jamaica. Over four hundred (400) young people from across the island will be in attendance.

According to Mrs. Marjorie Leyden-Vernon, Director of Community Cultural Services, “the conference will seek to highlight some of the major achievements of the parish clubs, make national awards to clubs and individual members and present displays/exhibitions on achievements/project research of the clubs.” She also stated that, the aim is to focus on the young people through whom the customs and traditions can be channeled and preserved.

The JCDC continues to fulfil its mandate of preserving the Jamaican culture and its heritage through the establishment of Culture Clubs in schools and other community based organizations across the island.
