CHILDREN’S GOSPEL SONG FINAL SET FOR MAY 31

Kingston Jamaica: The grand final of the Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song Competition is set for Sunday, May 31 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, 36 Hope Road starting at 6:30 p.m. This annual event organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) an agency of the Ministry of Youth & Culture will close Child’s Month with this grand celebration under the theme: “Strength for Today, Hope for Tomorrow”

According to Leighton Jones, JCDC Events Coordinator, Gospel & Church Services “Children are a heritage, chosen and blessed by God and we must realize that they are our strength and hope for tomorrow.” He further stated that the Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song competition continues to unearth and showcase some of the most talented children from across the island, some of whom will be on showcase on this Sunday.

Jones indicated that our country’s heritage are solely in our hands, hence it is incumbent on us to ensure that they are cared for, loved, taught well and prepared for the future.

The final will feature 24 finalists including choirs, ensembles and soloists in the 6-10 years old and 11-15 years old categories representing various communities, schools and churches across the island. The performers will be marked for Musicianship, Arrangement, Performance, and Interpretation. The top two winners in each category will be awarded trophies, cash prizes and gift packages.

Special guest artiste will be Gospel Powerhouse, Sister Patt. Tickets for the finals are available at a cost of $800 presold, $1000 at the gate for Adults and children under 12 years old, $400.00 with special group rate also available.

The competition which started in 2003 is the premier gospel song contest for children, and continues to provide a platform for talent development and inspiration since its inception. The competition accepts entries be they covers or original.

The main sponsors include Grace Tropical Rhythms, Grace Frankfurters, Hot Dog King, Tastee Cheese, Excelsior, Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation, Sweetie Confectionery, LOVE 101FM, NCU Radio and TBC Radio.
