Kingston Jamaica: Pembroke Hall High School is the new 2015 JCDC Artylympics Champion. The school captured the title from the Tacius Golding High School at the second edition held during the Jamaica Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition, organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an agency of the Ministry of Youth & Culture.

The ‘Artylympics’ Competition is one of the activities that was held recently during the “Schools’ Arts Day Out”, one of the main audience days of the visual arts exhibition. The students were given four related art-based fun activities which they have to overcome to stay in the competition which includes a mix media sculpture and an Art/ Exhibition Trivia.

The Pembroke Hall High School team was able to tap into their creativity and came up with an innovative work of art to showcase their talents and outshine the other competitors which included Wolmer’s Girls, Tacius Golding High and Knox College. In addition to winning the Championship Trophy, Pembroke Hall High School also won $100,000 for its Art Department courtesy of the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), the main sponsor of the Jamaica Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition.

Several grades 10-12 students and their teachers were also invited to participate in various Workshops, Artist Talk and Public Murals during the Student Art Day Out. The JCDC through the Visual Art Competition & Exhibition continues to unearth, developed and showcase the creative talent and expression of our people.
