Exciting Staging of Maas Ran Celebration on October 26

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) is promising an evening of excitement and laughter on Sunday, October 26 with actor Volier ‘Maffie’ Johnson and theatre practitioner Amina Blackwood-Meeks who will headline the Maas Ran Celebration at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre at 5:00 p.m.

A special showcase to commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the birth of cultural icon, Randolph Samuel Williams, CD popularly known as Ranny Williams, the celebration will also feature performances from the Jamaica Youth Chorale, the group Colors, Excelsior Community College, New Creation from Hibernia  Group, and gospel powerhouse Sister Pat.

The celebration which is free and open to the public will also include theatrical acts and excerpts, dance and musical performances in addition to exhibitions from government agencies.

Though many persons are familiar with the venue Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, not much is known about the man Ranny Williams who was a dramatist and a comedian.

JCDC Marketing and Public Relations Director, Stephen Davidson is inviting the public to come and learn more about Ranny Williams and the significant contribution he made to Jamaica’s culture. “There are many facets of his life that will be brought alive including his ‘Brer Anancy’ character and the time he spent with the Pantomime, his interest in Revivalism and Garveyism” Mr. Davidson added.

The JCDC aims to preserve the legacy of Ranny Williams and highlight the significance of his life and work to cultural heritage through this celebration.
