Central Jamaica Pays Tribute to Miss Lou on September 25

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) continues its tribute to national icon, Miss Lou on Thursday, September 25 at the May Pen Primary School, Sevens Road, Clarendon at 4:00 p.m.

The celebration is being staged under the theme, “An Evening of Tributes to Miss Lou” and will feature tributes from Poet, Ras Carva, schools including Hazard Primary, May Pen High & Preparatory, Mineral Heights Primary, Cross Primary & Junior High, Hayes Primary & Junior High and also persons from Central Jamaica.

The JCDC, an agency of the Ministry of Youth and Culture has organized several celebrations through its corporate and parish offices to commemorate the life and work of a woman recognized on national and international levels.

Cultural Organizer for Clarendon, Tiffany Royal is inviting members of the public within close proximity to “come and share an evening that will include entertainment and education. The JCDC is staging this initiative with the aim of increasing the awareness of our cultural icon while stimulating interest in her life and work.”

Nationally, the late Dr. the Hon. Louise Bennett-Coverly, OM, OJ, MBE, has been honoured with the Order of Jamaica for distinguished service in the field of Arts and Culture, and the Order of Merit for her distinguished contribution to the development of the Arts and Culture. September 7 was celebrated as the 95th anniversary of the birth of Bennett who was appointed Cultural Ambassador at Large for Jamaica by the Government.
