Portland Festival Queen Heads to National Coronation

Port Antonio High School was filled with excitement on Saturday (May 17) with the hosting of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Miss Portland Festival Queen Parish Show. College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) student, Tahera Brown emerged the 2014 Parish Queen who will represent Portland at the National Coronation in July.

Six young ladies competed for the title under the theme, “Jamaican Women…Shaping our Culture and our Nation” with Shanique Rogers awarded the 1st Runner-up and the Best Performance sectional prize while Vanessa Gilzene was placed 2nd Runner Up and named the Most Culturally-Aware.

The Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition is the premier forum for young ladies seeking a platform to make their contributions to nation building giving the contestants an opportunity to hone and display their intelligence, cultural knowledge and talent.

MORE PARISH CORONATION

On Saturday, May 24, Westmoreland will crown its Festival Queen at the Sean Lavery Faith Hall in Savanna-la-mar at 8:00 p.m. with tickets being sold at a cost of Adults $1000 pre-sold, $1200 at the gate and children under 12 $400. Tickets are accessible at the Westmoreland Parish Office. Also on May 24, St. Thomas will host its Festival Queen Show at the Colonel Cove in Morant Bay at 8:00 p.m. The public can purchase tickets at the St. Thomas Parish Office at a cost of Adults $800 and Children under 12 years old $400.

Kingston and St. Andrew will crown its Parish Queen on Saturday, May 31 at the Louise Bennett Garden Theatre at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are being sold at the Parish Office at a cost of Adults $800 presold, $1000 at the gate and children under 12 years old $400. St. Elizabeth will host its Coronation also on May 31 at the Alpart Sports Club in Nain at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the JCDC St. Elizabeth Parish Office costing adults, $600 presold, $800 at the gate and children under 12 pay $300.
