Five Parishes Gear Up for Festival Queen Coronations • Portland, Westmoreland, St. Thomas, Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Elizabeth to Crown Cultural Ambassadors

After an exciting start to the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition, Portland, Westmoreland, St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew and St. Elizabeth are gearing up for its Parish Coronations in the coming days. 

The Festival Queen Coronations will kick start in Portland on Saturday May 17 at the Port Antonio High School starting at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are being sold at the Portland Parish Office at Adults $600 presold, $800 at the gate and children under 12 years old $200. On Saturday, May 24, Westmoreland will crown their Festival Queen at the Sean Lavery Faith Hall in Savanna-la-mar at 8:00 p.m. with tickets being sold at a cost of Adults $1000 presold, $1200 at the gate and children under 12 $400. Tickets are accessible at the Westmoreland Parish Office. Also on May 24, St. Thomas will host its Festival Queen Show at the Colonel Cove in Morant Bay at 8:00 p.m. The public can purchase tickets at the St. Thomas Parish Office at a cost of Adults $800 and Children under 12 years old $400.

Closing the month in fine style will be Kingston and St. Andrew who will crown its Parish Queen on Saturday, May 31 at the Louise Bennett Garden Theatre at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are being sold at the Parish Office at a cost of Adults $800 presold, $1000 at the gate and children under 12 years old $400. St. Elizabeth will host its Coronation also on May 31 at the Alpart Sports Club in Nain at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the JCDC St. Elizabeth Parish Office costing adults, $600 presold, $800 at the gate and children under 12 pay $300.

This year’s competition is being staged under the theme, “Jamaican Women…Shaping our Culture and our Nation” and allows contestants to compete for a chance to represent their parish as cultural ambassadors and compete at the National Coronation. The contestants will be judged in categories including Cultural Awareness, Community Involvement and Talent Performance. Parish Queens will receive cash awards, trophies and gift packages from sponsors which include, Soft Sheen-Carson, Excelsior, Singer Jamaica, VMBS, Stayfree, Gillette Venus Embrace and Its Really Great Yogurt.
