Miss St. Mary Festival Queen is Crowned

After an exciting battle in the first Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Parish Coronation, 23 year old, Daneille Clarke walked away with the title and crown of the 2014 St. Mary Festival Queen on Saturday, May 3 at the Anglican Church Hall in Port Maria.

As one of the crowd favorites, Clarke won sectional prizes for Most Culturally-Aware, Best Performance and Community Involvement. She will now represent St. Mary in the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen National Coronation later on this year.

Seven young ladies competed for the title under the theme, “Jamaican Women…Shaping our Culture and our Nation” with Trishana Richardson copping second place and Yulice Williams placing third.

PARISH CORONATION CONTINUES

Coming up on the weekend, St. Ann will crown their winner on Saturday May 10 at the St. John’s Anglican Church Hall in Ocho Rios at 8: 00 p.m. and also on May 10, Manchester will choose their Parish Queen at the Cecil Charlton Hall in Mandeville starting at 8:00 p.m. Trelawny is also gearing up for its Parish Show which will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 11 at the Royalton White Sand Hotel (formerly Starfish Hotel) at 8: 00 p.m.

As one of the signature events of the JCDC, the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition is the premier forum for intelligent, culturally-aware and poised young ladies seeking a platform to make their contributions to nation building and to be selected as cultural ambassadors for Jamaica.
