The Jamaica Creative Writing Exhibition is one of the signature programmes of the JCDC, an agency of the Ministry of Youth and Culture which encourages amateur and professional writers to sharpen their writing skills in Standard English or the Jamaican Dialect through original essays, poems, short stories, novels and plays. Each year the outstanding pieces from the Competition are taken on the island wide Exhibition Tour in order to showcase the talent of our writers and to inspire members of the public.

For over 50 years, the competition has been one of the best channels of providing novelists, short story writers, essayists, playwrights and poets with the opportunity of recognizing and validating their writing talent, while showcasing and promoting writers and their original work. Entry forms for the 2014 competition are available online at www.jcdc.gov.jm, at the JCDC Head Office located at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10 and JCDC parish offices island-wide.

For JCDC Speech, Drama & Literary Arts Specialist Andrew Brodber, this year’s Exhibition takes on increased significance with the publication of the JCDC Gold Anthology which is a collection of gold medal-winning short stories from festivals held between 1999 and 2006.The Gold Anthology can be previewed on the Tour and purchased at Bookstores Island wide.
