JCDC and NYS to Train Young People in Events Management

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) in collaboration with the National Youth Service (NYS) has embarked on an Events and Production Management Training Programme which will train approximately 50 young people from across the island between the ages of 17 to 24 years old.

A week-long residential training will kick start on March 31, 2014 at the Kendal Camp & Conference Centre in Manchester at 9: 00 a.m. The participants in the programme will benefit from training in; Events Planning, Events Budget Preparation and Monitoring, Customer Relations, Elements of Production, Basic Décor, Set Design & Construction, First Aid and Fire Safety and Basic Protocol.

Upon completion, the participants will be assigned as Events Production Assistants to work with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s 13 parish offices and the head office, primarily providing assistance in the execution of programmes and national, celebratory and commemorative events across the island.

Events Management has grown rapidly in recent years and as such has become an important element in the conceptualization, planning, and execution of successful events. This has opened tremendous opportunities for job creation to help develop the economic landscape of Jamaica whilst providing meaningful opportunities for the buttressing of the creative and cultural sector.
