The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an agency of the Ministry of Youth & Culture, guided by its vision to be the global centre of Cultural Excellence continues to unearth and showcase the best in our Jamaican people. The Commission will promote Campion College, Ardenne High, Ascot High, Portmore Missionary Preparatory and Belmont Park Primary Schools to the ‘Studio Group’ category in its National Performing Arts Dance Programme. The promotion will be made official during an induction ceremony at the Girl Guide Headquarters, 2 Waterloo Road, Kingston 10 on Friday, February 21, 2014 starting at 10:00 a.m.

In addition to performing exceptionally well over the years in the JCDC National Festival of the Performing Arts Dance Competition, these schools are exposed to regular year round dance training with emphasis on technique and have developed a higher level of technical knowledge and execution and staged an annual paid concert season. The fulfillment of these requirements has allowed these schools to be promoted from the School/Community Group category.

Over the past three years, Campion College has been awarded 57 gold medals, 7 silver medals at the parish finals and 19 National trophies. Ardenne High has won 23 gold medals, 7 silver medals, 3 bronze and 10 trophies at the National Finals. Portmore Missionary Preparatory School has won 36 gold medals at the parish finals and 20 National trophies. Belmont Park Primary School also won 30 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 14 National trophies including the Sheila Barnett Trophy for Most Outstanding Junior School Group at the National Finals while Ascot High School received 21 gold medals, 8 silver medals, 1 bronze medal and 16 trophies at the National Finals.
