JCDC CREATIVE WRITING EXHIBITION TOURS CENTRAL JAMAICA • Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) continues to showcase the talents and cultural expressions of our Jamaican people through one of its umbrella programmes, the Jamaica Creative Writing Competition & Exhibition. This competition has been capturing Jamaican Literary expressions for the past 50 years by encouraging amateur and professional writers to sharpen their skills in Standard English or Jamaican Dialect. Participants are awarded each year for their outstanding work in the various categories including essays, short-stories, poems, novels and scripts.

The public is given an opportunity to view the award-winning works from the Competition each year as the works tour the island, making stops at the parish libraries. For the first quarter of 2014, Exhibition will stop in the central region: Clarendon,   January 7-21; Manchester, January 23-February 6 and St. Elizabeth, February 10-24, 2014.

According to Andrew Brodber, Speech Drama & Literary Arts Specialist, “Captivating, motivational and inspirational, heart-warming, awesome and excellent are only a few selected words shared from persons who have viewed the Exhibition mounted at the local libraries across Jamaica - calling it fantastic!” He further noted that this tour is even more significant since the JCDC Gold Anthology with selected gold medal winning Short Stories is now available for sale - taking writers full circle, publishing their writing to the world! Members of the public are invited to view the exhibition, leave a note in the Comment Book and purchase a copy of the JCDC Gold Anthology.
