JCDC TO HOST FOODS WORKSHOPS - St. Thomas, St. Catherine and Kingston & St. Andrew

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will host three Festival of Foods Developmental Workshops to help participants in the Annual JCDC Festival of Foods Competition sharpen their culinary skills before the Regional Finals. The workshops will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the St. Thomas Anglican Church Hall, Morant Bay, on Thursday, May 30, at the St Catherine Farmers’ Training Centre, Twickenham Park, (In front of the Police Academy) and on Tuesday, June 4, at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, starting at 10:00 a.m.  The registration cost is $500 and this can be done at the JCDC Offices or at the workshop location.

The workshops will focus on creativity, presentation, live demonstration and developing recipes.  The products that will be featured include Grace Low Salt CockSoup, Grace Coconut Milk, Nestle Betty Sweetened Condensed Milk and Gloria Evaporated Milk, Jamaican Teas – Caribbean Dreams Chocolate Tea Anchor Powered Milk, Tastee Cheese and Benjamin Flavouring Products & Jerk Seasoning.

According to Dr. Pamella Powell, Special Project Coordinator and Coordinator of the Festival Foods Competition, “these developmental workshops promises to be very exciting and interesting  as they will help participants prepare for the upcoming Festival of Foods Competition.”  She further stated that outstanding Chef Nicholas Douglas will be on hand to demonstrate how to prepare indigenous dishes using locally grown agricultural products.  The workshops are open to schools, institutions community groups and seniors.

The JCDC Festival of Foods Competition Regional Finals will be held on Friday, June 7th at the Sean Lavery Faith Hall, in Westmoreland and on Friday, June 21 at the Chinese Benevolent Association, 176 Old Hope Road,, Kingston starting at 10:00 a.m.

The Festival of Foods Competition is sponsored by Grace CockSoup, Diary Industries, PA Benjamins Manufacturing, Jamaican Teas Ltd and Nestle Jamaica,
